Mobile Phone Alert
If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they’re checking your mobile line, and you have to press #90 or #09 or any other number, end this call immediately without pressing any numbers.
There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your “SIM” card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many colleagues, relatives and friends as you can, to stop it.
Many thanks for your time regarding this matter.
Westra thanks Police for funding
Westra is extremely grateful to St Helens Police for the funding they have provided for the kids club.
If it were not for their generosity then the club would not have been formed and the kids would not have been able to take advantage of the equipment the funding bought. They have continued their support again this year, and the funding was used to take club members on a trip to Acorn Farm in Liverpool. We had a great day with all the animals, the kids got to feed and pet them and they also enjoyed a horse ride. PCSO Donna Shimmin joined us on the trip and remarked on how well the kids had behaved. Westfield Success Story
Dispersal Orders
As part of Merseyside Police and St Helens Council’s commitment to tackle Anti-Social Behaviour, ‘Dispersal orders’ were introduced on the Westfield Estate of St Helens area for a 6 month period on the whole of the Westfield Estate, St Helens in December 2007.
The order, which focused on three zones was extended by another 6 months and expired in December 2008. The zones enabled Police and Police Community Support Officers, who had reasonable grounds for believing that the presence or behaviour of a group of two or more persons in the area had resulted, or was likely to result, in any members of the public being intimidated, harassed, alarmed or distressed, to direct away, disperse and prohibit a return within 24 hours. Individuals who failed to abide were liable to arrest.
How successful have the Orders been?
A number of local residents were asked to participate in a survey recently to measure if the dispersal orders had made a difference to them. The results of the survey evidenced: -
In addition, Merseyside Police and St Helens Council have obtained 4 Anti-Social Behaviour Orders against local individuals and agreed several voluntary Acceptable Behaviour contracts with others over the last 12 months in the area.
Acting Inspector Diane Pownall said “St Helens Town Centre Neighbourhood Police have worked closely with partners and residents to make the Westfield Estate a safer place. The dispersal order was introduced in response to concerns about gangs of youths who hung around the Estate and behaved in an Anti-Social manner. The individuals who failed to abide with the dispersal order were targeted and challenged; additionally 4 local individuals received Anti- Social Behaviour Orders, which includes prohibitions of associating with each other and others on the Estate. The results of this survey shows that our work and the dispersal orders have made a tangible difference and positive effect on feelings of safety in the community. Our partnership work with Arena Housing, Helena Partnerships and the local tenant and resident organisation WESTRA, included numerous partnership led diversionary activities for young people and by working together we also identified and target hardened vulnerable locations providing respite to victims of Anti-Social Behaviour. My message is that Anti-Social Behaviour will not be tolerated on the Estate and we will continue to take action with our partners against those responsible”.
What next?
Perpetrators of Anti-Social behaviour will continue to be targeted as part of the Neighbourhood Action Group, which consists of amongst others, Merseyside Police, St Helens Council, Arena Housing, Helena Partnerships and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.
If you are suffering from Anti-Social Behaviour, do not suffer in silence.
You can report incidents to Merseyside Police on 0151 709 6010 or if you have information about those behaving in an Anti-Social manner, you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111

WESTRA THANKS OUR INSPECTOR
Westra would like to thank our acting Inspector Diane Pownall and the neighbourhood team for the quick response in dealing with the recent ASB. Since the last public meeting held in March, and following the measure’s the Police team implemented, Westra has seen a significant drop in complaints of ASB. This show’s that the continuing partnership between the Police, Helena & Arena housing and Westra is working to make the estate a better place to live.
