GARDEN OPENING A SUCCESS

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

As clouds loomed overhead, thankfully the rain stayed away; as invited guests and residents arrived to see St Helens Mayor Neil Taylor and his Mayoress wife Ginny open the Community Garden on Lyon Close. Once the formalities were over the gate was opened to allow people in to view the garden, and Kids Club members got to work planting flowers in one of the raised beds. Thanks go to local resident Ted Cowhig for his generous donation, part of which was used to purchase a bench which will bear a plaque in recognition of his kindness. Special thanks also go to St Helens Chamber and Steve Anders and his team for all the hard work they put in to ensure we had the garden ready for the opening. Had it not been for them this project would never have got off the ground. Later everyone headed over to Raglan Court for a buffet lunch to finish off an enjoyable day.

POOR RESPONSE FOR SALE

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Despite a good response from residents to donate goods for the jumble sale, we were very disappointed with the support from residents on the day. The event was well advertised around local shops and businesses and a 500 leaflet drop was done around the estate on the week end before the event. After all the hard work we put in to make this a success only around a dozen people turned up on the day.
The main disappointment was that we hardly raised any money for the charity which is such a good cause. We now intend to try and sell the stock on a daily basis from the centre. So please if you are passing the Centre call in and take a look at what’s on offer.

KIDS CLEAN UP

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

During the school holidays last month, the Kids Club members along with the CSO’s did a graffiti and rubbish clean up campaign around the estate.
The activity was arranged through the Justice seen justice done program and the children did an excellent job despite the horrible weather on the day.
